Fantastic turn out at Sunday’s Act of Remembrance service
There was a fantastic turn out at yesterday’s Act of Remembrance at the War Memorial at the bottom of Memorial Drive.
This as always was a poignant and moving service, remembering all those killed in conflicts around the world.
Whatever your politics or beliefs, it is an opportunity to honour those who died in the service of their country
Next year will of course be extra special, being the Centenary of the end of the Great War.
Well they’re gone!
A small but beautifully formed band of 5 willing volunteers cleared the mass of wild flower greenery in front of the Meanwood Village stone and planted bulbs for next spring. When they die down a similar mix of wildflowers will be sown for the summer.
It was a backbreaking, exhausting task but was made worth it by the number of people who came up to chat to us and say how they’ve enjoyed the plants and what a difference it has made to the area.
We were also very grateful to James from the Hungry Bear restaurant who invited us to come over for a complimentary bowl of soup to restore our energy. It was gorgeous too! Many thanks James.
And most importantly, our thanks go to Nigel Lees from Dunston and Lees Gardeners for all his hard work, time and expertise.
On Friday 17th November, friends of MVP Hannah & Hatty, owners of Tandem on Meanwood Road are hosting their third free Exhibition this month featuring artist and printmaker Caroline Hick and Live Music from Meanwood Festival and Fun Day favourite David Broad and the Meanwood Valley Stompers.
It’s on from 6.30pm – 10.30pm on Friday 17th November and there is also a Bar available.
They will be raising funds for the Grenfell Tower victims.
